Maison Choisy : An Art of Living

Acappella, who am I ?

Acappella came into existence as a result of our passion for some clay-limestone slopes facing due south, looking towards Saint-Emilion, located in the village of Parsac (in the past a highly reputated appellation), wich over the years has become part of the Montagne-Saint-Emilion. Acappella is comprised of three small plots, planted with Merlot and some very old Cabernet Franc, which allow a very small quantity of wine to be produced. Why did we choose the name Acappella ? Our wine aspires to exist solely through the quality of the grapes we harvest and the energy we devote to creating it; Acappella it thus created purely, without using any fancy techniques.

A different conception of wine in Bordeaux

We are young winegrowers by profession, but our aim is not simply to "produce" wine, with the industrial connotation that this word implies, but to create a nectar, in the same way as a craftsman of art, by personally mastering each stage of its genesis. In a nutshell, our philosophy is to arouse sensorial and aesthetic emotions, by beginning a real "one to one" with the substance itself: the grape. Now let us allow to discover Acappella.

 Our Background

Béatrice Choisy-Massonie

From the moment I was born, I’ve been immersed in the world of wine.  The family estate, “Château PERRON” in Lalande de Pomerol, is my birthplace and it was here that I took my very first steps.  After a course in business studies, I worked at the family estate for six years, promoting its wines, becoming a founding member of the “Aliénors du Vin de Bordeaux”, a group of twelve lady winegrowers who formed an association in order to publicise our products using a feminine style.  Wholly absorbed by the culture of winegrowing, I wanted to further my knowledge and therefore I chose to follow a specialised training programme in “winegrowing and wine-making” at the Agricultural College in Montagne.  My taste for beautiful and exquisite things means that I’ve always been fascinated by art and craftsmanship.  With ACAPPELLA, this fascination took shape by enabling me to become a creator of art in my own way.

Christophe Choisy

After studying economics, I decided to take a training course in oenology at the Mecca of wine: the Faculty of Oenology at Bordeaux University. I successfully gained my D.U.A.D qualification (a University Diploma of Skill in Wine Tasting). For several years I dealt with promoting wine through seminars and trips, which were organised in various winegrowing regions as a part of the activities of the company I set up, VINICOM. The finest chateaus of the Bordeaux region and elsewhere provided the basis for enhancing my knowledge of wines. In keeping with an enterprising objective, alongside VINICOM I developed a wine trade structure whose customers are based mainly in northern Europe. Tasting, providing comments and selling wines are all interesting elements, but I needed to progress further. I wanted to create a wine. My wife, Béatrice, and I came up with the idea of buying some vines and making our own wine. This is how ACAPPELLA came into existence.

Our mutual Philosophy

To arouse sensorial, aesthetic emotions and begin a real “one to one” with the substance itself: the grape.  Now let’s share ACAPPELLA with our epicurean friends.
